Wells Fargo Divestment/Desinversion

Dear Mr. Kellner:

I am [insert name], an individual who is concerned about Wells Fargo investing in the prison industry, specifically the GEO Group (GEO) and Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). I Represent, [insert organization].

GEO and CCA are large private prison companies that make money incarcerating people from our community on behalf of the federal and state governments. They have been financing efforts to criminalize and incarcerate immigrants through such immigration laws as those passed in Arizona and Georgia. And they are not the only population affected: communities of color and youth face higher incarceration rates in the entire nation.

These private prisons are profiting from peoples’ misery and our tax dollars. The laws that CCA and GEO Group lobby for are destroying families for profit. Numerous lawsuits have been filed against private prisons because of the abuse, rape, and death of people detained inside. The laws that incentivize detaining immigrants have created a higher level of fear in immigrant communities and have eroded civil rights, human rights and civil liberties for all of us.

We are asking that your bank respect our community and human rights by divesting all of Wells Fargo’s holdings in the GEO Group and CCA. We are part of the National Prison Industry Divestment Campaign.

Therefore, I sign this letter as a pledge to withdraw my balance and cancel all my accounts and/or never open an account with Wells Fargo, if Wells Fargo does not divest its holdings in the GEO Group and CCA. I will encourage friends and family to do the same and we will take our business to a company that affirms our community’s dignity.
