Sunflower's Mortgage Lending Campaign Continues
Since 2002, when Sunflower leaders won a $7.2 million settlement with sub prime lender Conseco Finance on behalf of Kansas consumers, Sunflower has brought financially-abused people together to fight predatory lending. On August 3, 2005, KSN News told Jim Lemmons' story of losing his home and getting it back again with Sunflower's help. "We're thankful to God that Sunflower was there to fight for us," Lemmons said.
Predatory loan companies prey on people who need money because they have been laid off, have medical bills, or are recent immigrants. Using high interest rates and fees, these companies put families in an even worse financial condition.
Sunflower has a working partnership with the Office of the Kansas Bank Commissioner to fight predatory lending and national agreements with Ocwen Financial, Select Portfolio Servicing, and CitiFinancial to keep their borrowers out of foreclosure. These partnerships help people who have experienced financial hardship stay in their homes.
