Driver's License Offices Make Changes

Sunflower has worked with state officials since 2000 to improve immigrant access to a Kansas driver’s license. In February 2007 and again in July Sunflower leaders met with the Kansas Secretary of Revenue to talk about policies and procedures in driver’s license offices.

Sunflower leaders were able to negotiate the creation of evaluation cards in English and Spanish so consumers can offer feedback about the performance of DMV employees. The DMV director also agreed to other steps to promote better service for Spanish speakers.

Access to a driver’s license/ID and auto insurance for immigrants is important for public safety. Sunflower will continue to ask Kansas officials to create a means by which new immigrants can drive safely and legally during the long process of securing citizenship.
