Pilot Citizenship School is a Success!

DREAM Team students, most from North High School, have created a new way to make life better for their families. Many immigrants have a green card and work very hard to provide for their families. They are eligible to apply for citizenship, but the test is difficult and the fee is high. Wichita’s green card holders need an opportunity to educate themselves and take the citizenship test!

In April and May a pilot Citizenship School held evening classes hosted at North High School. Students became teachers and 40 parents became students! At a Citizenship Fair put on in May by Sunflower and partners, those 40 parents and 160 other green-card holders applied to take the exam and paid the $400 federal fee (now $800).

Because of that success, another six-week Citizenship School will begin September 18. Call the school’s director, Emira Palacios at 264-9972, ext. 17, for more information.
